Though sharpening blades of a circular saw was always a do-it-yourself task, most people simply had professionals perform this task. With the economics today, it may be a good idea to try it yourself, if you can.
Following tips will guide you regarding the blade sharpening process:
18V Circular Saw
1. First, remove blades from the circular saw. Generally, to remove blades you will need an open-ended wrench box. Do not forget to refer the owner's manual prior to opening the blades.
2. Now place in the vise and close it properly. However, see that you do not tighten it much.
3. Next, make a marking with chalk at top most point of blade so that you understand that you have completed sharpening of the whole blade. Now hold the file, it means diamond file, especially if you sharpen blades using carbide tips at a twenty degree angle. Then, lightly stroke it along bevel edge of first tip and four good strokes will be adequate for sharpening it.
4. Next, skip blade points and then repeat same process all over again. Stroking the file at least four times over beveled edge will sharpen the points.
5. Go on turning the blade and go all around saw blade sharpening all points. You will understand when the entire process of sharpening it is over, as you will return to the chalk mark. Repeat the same thing on other blade side. Be sure to also start with the top most points with the beveled edge.
6. Finally, complete filing tips of the beveled tooth. Then, place the file between the top two teeth with the files flat side against the leading edge of the points. Run the file backwards and forwards just a single time across front edge from tip of blade point. Repeat this procedure for all tips and the blade will get sharpened in no time.
If you follow these simple instructions, you can sharpen the blades of your circular saw in an easy manner.
